Watery lotions 101
Discover why these liquid assets are so good for skin.
What are watery lotions?
These skin-quenchers are an integral part of skin care regimens in Asia, where they’re also known as essences, softening lotions or conditioning lotions. Light yet powerful, watery lotions rehydrate, re-plump and restore lost nutrients.
When do I apply it?
After cleansing, and before serums and moisturizers. Once you’ve applied your watery lotion, your skin is more receptive to the products that follow.
Is there a special technique for applying it?
Gently pat it on skin with your fingertips (no cotton ball needed). The action of pressing into your skin stimulates circulation and allows for enhanced absorption.
If I use Clarifying Lotion, do I still need a watery lotion?
A watery lotion works synergistically with Clarifying Lotion. After you exfoliate with Clarifying Lotion and replenish with a watery lotion, you’ll notice your skin more readily absorbs your serum and moisturizer.
Since watery lotions hydrate, do I still need a moisturizer?
Yes. Watery lotions help rehydrate skin so it’s more receptive to moisture. Think of it like this: when you apply moisturizer to dry skin, it often sits on the surface and doesn’t penetrate. But once you exfoliate and replenish essential hydration, skin can reap the benefits of a moisturizer because it instantly sinks in. Choose a moisturizer that’s right for your skin type and concern.
I have oily skin. Is a watery lotion still beneficial?
All skins need moisture, even oil-prone types. Even Better Essence Lotion comes in two formulas—one is for oilier skins. Turnaround Revitalizing Lotion is designed for all skin types.
Why the watery formula?
It’s light, refreshing and easily absorbed—skin benefits instantly. It also layers effortlessly. Use a serum and a moisturizer afterward to seal in the positive effects.
